Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo/...sage.id=509680
I heard this guy gave the DS specs before they were revealed...the following could be true...or not...he's not even sure...
Quote:
There has been a TON of speculation on Nintendo's upcoming console but little is actually known about it. There are so many different ideas that no one really knows what to think. So here are some supposed "facts" about the Revolution. I can't reveal my source because I've been asked not to. Sorry guys. I would say that this info has at least a 65% chance of being accurate. My source has been right before and he's also been wrong. Here goes......
Ok first things first. Yes, Nintendo will utilize gyros in it's controllers. I think most people pretty much already took this as fact. Also, the Rev will indeed have dual processors. Also broadband is built in, no modem to buy. Nintendo has an online strategy in development. It will be implemented on the DS first. There are no current plans to connect the DS and the Rev....the GB Evolution on the other hand......
The Rev will have four controller ports. It will have a hard drive which will be used in much the same way as the 64DD was supposed to be used. Things like Dolby Digital 5.1 and high def monitor support are included. There is no type of virtual reality or any kind of headset planned. It is backwards compatible with Gamecube games. It will use the HD-DVD format and not Sony's Blu-Ray. Controllers are not wireless, but wireless controllers are planned. It will launch with an unnamed Mario game and work on Zelda has already begun. Super Smash Brothers is in mid development and will be a launch title.
Ok so what's the Revolutionary part? That's what you all want to know. Well my source wouldn't tell me. He said it would get him into too much trouble, and could give Sony and Microsoft an advantage at this stage in the game. But he did say this; "if you think too hard you'll never guess what it is. It's nothing "new" technically speaking. It's just something that hasn't really been applied to video games yet."
He then said "touching is good but feeling is better". What exactly that means I have no idea. Some sort of force feedback device? We already have rumble packs.
|
So much for the revolutionary part. It's not the gyro controllers making it revolutionary apparently. Any ideas? I thought of those devices which read your brain waves to manipulative images on a screen. They're usually used for people to learn to concentrate better and require head gear. There's a similar one that uses brain waves triggered by feelings too. I'm probably reading way too much into his feeling hint though.
Eh, at least it's something to hold me over till E3.

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
Maybe our Pikachu Plush Toys have a built in controller port we are all missing so now we can feel Pikachu as we are playing our Pokemon games
But those things sound cool. I don't like the HD-DVD format much (prefer the much larger blu-ray format myself), but since its Sony's format, Nintendo has to use a different one
Thankfully I'll most likely be at this year's E3 in case Nintendo unveils the console to the world

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
The thing about HD-DVD is Nintendo would be going against Matsu****a (Panasonic) if they were to go with that format since Panasonic is on the Blu-ray Disc Association Board of Directors. Perhaps Nintendo cares more about the price of production though. I don't really know the price differences between HD-DVD and Blu-ray. So for them to use HD-DVD Nintendo would drop Panasonic and partner with either Toshiba, NEC, or Sanyo. Or the rumor guy is wrong on the media used.
EDIT: *sigh* GT's language filter. Can't even write Japanese company names without it thinking I'm cursing.

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
Ok Dan I think your thinking too deep.
Maybe he's talking about force feed back or something, because I just can't see Big N making a system where the controller that you have is used to tilt the controller to the side or front to make the person on the screen move.
Or maybe the revolution part is actually not using the A and B buttons
I guess we will have to wait until E3 to actually find out.

Gyros are delicious... but how will they incorporate it into a controller?

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
I already told you guys... touchpad with force feedback control... not only do you touch the touch pad, but you feed the feedback coming out of it.... if this is not what the revolution is, you can ban me from the forums....

This is so exciting. I'm really looking forward to E3 now because I have no idea what they're talking about.

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
I think the 'feeling' clue they're giving us is some kind of amazing function in the controller that'll create the feeling of whatever the onscreen character is holding. For example, if it's a racing game, the controller's backside will suddenly 'feel' like a steering wheel. If it's a Zelda game, your controller will suddenly feel like a sword or other weapon.
Just a guess.
I'm so happy to hear Super Smash Bros. will be a launch title though!

The sad part is developers will be too lazy to try something new like this. It sounds great on paper but I want to see how it works in practice. Fighting games might be a bit tough but seriously, every console's controller has a weakness to some kind of genre.
I just seriously hope that if something with Gyro's is used and works well in practice, that developers think outside the box of A/B/X/Y once in awhile

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
I'd take HD-DVD over any other medium avaliable, especially Blu-Ray. For all you who bitch about Nintendo going their own way on things (like proprietary discs), you should be praying for HD-DVD. It has great potential, unlike Blu-Ray. It is being designed to be backwards compatable with DVDs, so it has a greater change of being adopted by Hollywood, as well as being put into PC drives. And if movies come out on DVD, it increases the number of companies using the format, which leads to lower discs costs, which makes developers happy.
I just don't see Blu-Ray being sucessful. But this is all BS, the guy took already existing rumors and wrote about it. Just look at the way it's written, it's in the same manner that all the Dolphin BS was written in. It's the same thing every time, and the guy is always supposedly "credible" until he disappears after the trade shows.

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
I'm not saying HD-DVD will be "teh suxorz", I just prefer Blu-Ray for the fact its larger and makes it much easier for High Definition stuff to fit on 1 disc intead of multiples like current DVD's are. I'd like to have all 3 LotR movies, in high def, on 1 disc instead of 3 or more.
But I'll embrace either format. Companies need to stop bitching with each other and settle on one format.
