I think there must be something wrong as when I got to this point I talked to him and he reveals a big secret (I don't want to spoil the surprise). You then get to fight him for a bit, on and off. You should be able to continue through the network of doors to the Hawk after he gets distracted.

I should probably tell you that I think the reason why people haven't written replies is that you've created a new thread for a KOTOR question. There is already a section for this game. I thought I'd tell you as I made the same mistake and I didn't get the required answer I was after. You'll have to read the rules & regulations.
