'I have a friend, who happens to be black', as if it were an accident or something. He had two black parents? 'Oh, yes he did, yes he did.' And they reproduced? 'Indeed they did'. Yesss, so where does the surprise come in? I would think it would be more unusual if he just happened to be Scandanavian. The other term is 'openly'. 'He's openly gay'. Homosexuals are the only minority they use this with. You wouldn't say 'He's openly black'.... well, with the exception of James Brown. Or Louis Farrakhan, Louis Farrakhan is openly black. Colin Powell is openly white. He just happens to be black..."
