it was made to play CD's. thats why it has CD player options in it. and basically its own on screen CD player. it doenst just HAPPEn to be there. they ptu it in there to play CD's.

What I mean is.
The CD player in the ps1 isn't a selling point. It's there, it's a feature, but no one bought a ps1 to play cds.
Many, many people (including a ton of people in japan) bought a ps2 simply because it was a cheap dvd player (299$ was a good price back in october 2000) The ps2 and xbox were designd to be dvd players as well as game systems, the ps1 was a game system that sony decided to put a cd player into because it's a fun little toy.
