I think you would have been better off just getting the playcube adaptor, so you could have an alternative, official controller (unless you don't like the DS2).
I just haven't had any good experiences with 3rd party accessories (from the previous generation that is). I basically had my whole Rayman 2 file wiped out on the N64 (and Turok 2).
And for quality, you just can't beat official controllers. I've heard that the new batch of unofficial controllers for the Cube are pretty good, but just aren't as good in terms if quality, for example the official controller has a better analogue stick, and better shoulder buttons. While everything else is pretty much the same, except the size of the D-Pads
.
I'm not entirely sure about what type of games you enjoy, but I guess anyone that truly enjoys games would like Pikmin, though you may want to wait for Pikmin 2. And try out SMS, it may get a bit monotonous after that 70/80th shine, but it's a brilliant game all the way upto those shines.
