Well, you're forgetting something. Microsoft doesn't innovate, their R&D department is paid to watch MacWorld and try to find a way to duplicate it. Then come the next MacWorld (July), they announce that they have this great new idea (which is old in the Mac market) and then Apple announces new stuff again.
Apple is so far ahead it's not even funny. Of course, they need to catch up in processors, and bus speeds, but for the other 98% of the computer market, Apple wins hands-down.
