Runs... no they don't let you stop. Road marching, well that is at your own pace, but you usually have a time limit to get it done it. Like for example: 12 miles in 3 hours.
That all depends what your arms feel like. I'm not an expert, but usually if you don't workout at all and you start getting into it, the part of your body that has been exercised is sore. I mean, really sore. To the point of not wanting to move it because you feel it burn each time. Since I don't know what you feel like, you might want to look into it. If you don't workout properly, you could really hurt yourself.
Basically the reason for the pain is that when you workout, it tears down you body's muscle, but that is natural. What you body does then is builds up your muscles again, but stronger (and bigger).
