Playboy game in 2004
Source
Quote:
Playboy Enterprises, Inc. has entered into a global licensing arrangement with Arush Entertainment in conjunction with Groove Games, to create, market and distribute interactive videogames featuring the Playboy-brand.
The game is targeted for a 2004 release and will be available on multiple platforms, including the PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC. The title is described as being in the “world-builder simulation” genre and will have players take the role of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. Virtual Hef’s will attempt to establish and build their own Playboy empire while “living the ultimate Playboy lifestyle.”
The title will of course be aggressively marketed in Playboy magazine and on Playboy.com in an attempt to capitalize a readership, which reportedly spent over $300 million on videogames “over the last year.” It was also estimated that more than 3.1 million Playboy readers own a videogame system.
An Arush spokesman told GameDaily that it was “likely” that the game would contain nudity, adding that everyone involved has been “closely following” the recent release of boundary-pushing, mature-rated videogames. He also said that while the game is currently only in the planning stage, the companies hoped to create a “quality game that would sell itself” and not rely on controversy to spark sales. Early indication is that the title will almost certainly be rated “M” (Mature).
