I heard everyone say Suikoden III is an awesome game but one thing that is on my mind are those 108+ characters. I don't want the game to end up like Chrono Cross and have a lot of characters to choose from.

like DarkMaster said, it balaances out nicely. All Suikoden games have been like that. It is essential for building your army.
