Kazaa - Dangerous to use?
Well I guess this applies to any file sharing program, but anyway...
Today in Computer class my teacher told me that a Kazaa user in Pittsburgh was sued by a couple of Record Companies. Why? For downloading their songs.
Apparently, Record Companies are now starting to attack random Kazaa users for downloading their music/media. The thing is, they cant sue the makers of Kazaa because they arent the ones who store all of the media files (unlike previous file sharign programs), Kazaa is just a program that is set up for people to share files, obviously. And since people are the ones who are ripping CDs and putting the music on their PCs for other people to download, then thats why these companies have started to do this.
Although, I think this is kind of dumb. Even though it is considered piracy, why sue somebody for downloading a song that they like? Even though the companies do lose...tons of..money..
And I also heard that a law might be passed in the US so that companies can actually search your shared folder for their music, as long as they dont alter it in any way...
So what do you guys think? Should companies just be able to sue random Kazaa users for downloading their music?
