First off, it depended where you went to look for the weapons to synthesize.
I had no problem with synthesis. The storyline was good and unfolding, in my opinion. And Vivi is just so cool
Their "limit thingie" was called the Trance System, and I thought Zidane's Trance abilities were pretty cool. I detested the materia system. GREATLY. I just hated Materia. I'd rather learn my abilities, or have a system like FFX's or Chrono Cross's. And the magic/equipment thing was cool too. FFVII was just a reflection of our society. FFIX...well, I just liked FFIX way better
