If you find out you forgot to take something back and its overdue. Just keep it for however long you normally would. I forgot to take something back once, and the guy there said I should've just kept the game another 5 days(back then). I did that when I rented Majora's Mask. I just kept it an extra 5 days and it was still just $5(back then).
