Right when you walk into the checkout lane with any kind of electronic device or when an employee is trying to make a sale...and remember that they are not on commission (they are supposed to stress this to make you feel better):

Example: Nintendo GameCube

Best Buy Employee:
Hi, did you know that on this Nintendo GameCube we offer a 3 year service plan(brings out pamphlet and shows you the options) for only $$$$. If anything should break or happen within the 3 years all you have to do is bring it back in with your reciept and we will take care of it for you. If we can't repair the item, then we will replace it with new one of equal value. It covers everything that comes in the box including controllers and all cords from normal wear and tear, dust, manufacturer defects and accidents that may occur......blah blah blah.....considering the amount you are paying for this system, the service plan comes out to only this much$$$ per year. Would you be interested in this??


How's that??? Thats how it goes if I remember correctly? I know cause I used to work there. They offered those plans on every little electronic device they had. Even on $10 phones.......who in their right minds would pay $7 for a replacement plan for a $10 phone??? Might as well just get a new one because by the time the phone actually breaks, there are better phones out there for $10.

I'm guessing on some of the more expensive electronics that it might actually be worth getting the service plans because it could end up saving you big $$$ if anything did ever go wrong, but on many of the other electronics, I think they are just out to take you hard earned money.
