Well, if you attack a guard, the game gives you options if you would like to: pay the guard off, go to jail, or fight it. I'm not sure if you pay the guard off if that takes away all of the bounty on your head or just the bounty you would have got from attacking the guard though... but it's worth a shot. After playing Morrowind for a few more hours, I now agree with The Strangler and Neo that a strategy guide is the wrong way to go. But I must admit when I used the first main quest information from the strategy guide is really helped me out, but other then that I would not advise using the guide any further.
After restarting my game nearly ten times, I've finally found the guy I like, which really helps in this game. I've also finally mastered the fighting system, for better or for worse. When I first started Morrowind I wanted to be as honest as possible, always return stolen money and get the not so best end of the deal, if the deal was honest. But now I find after getting a great sword that it is just too tempting to just kill a guy in his house and take all of his possessions. It's just too easy, and the rewards are great. So far I have killed two creatures and several animals. I'd say it amounted to a few hundred in cash. Oh yeah, I've completed two side quests and one of the main quests I believe. Still have hundreds to go.
