I've heard the numbers on vgcharts are mostly made up or extrapolated heavily based on small data sets.

Another thing to consider is that when Microsoft first announced all of Xbones crazy DRM and always online stuff - that blew up huge in mainstream media. Everyone knew about it, even people that don't follow games on the internet.

When M$ backed off, that didn't really get that much mainstream coverage. Plenty of people still think the Xbone won't let them play used games or trade with friends. That's probably going to affect early sales.
