Re: PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
I'm currently in the closed beta for this game, and it's a fun game hidden beneath a lot of bad decisions it would seem.
The game feels like they started off saying... we need to make our own Smash Bros... and then how do we make it different... and then no one ever going back and fixing the issues that would arise from making Smash Bros diff
For example, one of the cooler things about the game is how the stages work. They tend to combine two of Sony's franchises and they morph as you play. Some more than others....
But what's the point? Unlike Smash Bros where an evolving stage would mean changing your tactics or keeping up with movement.. a changed stage here means nothing. Since again, it doesn't change the way you score points.
Like one stage, a grinder opens up in the middle.. you would think to stay away from it because it would drain HP.. oh wait there's no HP... I think it takes away some AP (The meter you use to build your supers), but if it does not in any great quantity....
Which leads me to my single biggest problem with the game right now.. it has a terrible sense of feeding the user any type of information
For instance, didn't know how to really play the first two times because the controller layout screen is shown for a second.. and that's it.. they should move it to the finding a match screen since can be there for some time.. (again this is a beta)
But the biggest offenders is actually during game play. The game doesn't give you any indication of who is winning/losing in a match. There's no audio cue or anything really when you gain a level on your super meter.. and dying and respawns have no real pop to them.. it's frustrating.. I would die.. and not know it.. and would return.. and not know it! >.<
