I think it might also just be because you played through them when you were younger, so you're still (somewhat) familiar with them.
I downloaded Sonic 2 for PS3, and burned through that game faster than I thought I would. And then I found out I
still remembered the level-cheat code, just because I played that freakin' thing so much as a kid.

I know what you mean. Despite what I just said, occasionally on some older games there are parts where I just get so annoyed and think "How did I do this as a wee little baby, and not as a giant manly adult?"
