When the next version of the 3DS comes out and I get one I'm just going to turn on the 3D for each new game I get to look at it then turn it off. I'm glad they gave the option to disable it.

Well, they just gave us the option to turn the 3D off of a system called the 3DS.

But I don't think user interface is the same as visual output.
3D in my mind is similar to HD in that it enhances the visual clarity of a game, and that's about it. And I assume you know that both PS3 and 360 can output in SD just as much as HD. No difference between choosing your level of 3D on the 3DS.
The better comparison would be if you could turn off the touch screen/motion controls of the handheld if you didn't want it.
