Re: This or That: Mario RPG Series
SMRPG. Nough said.
I've played every RPG in the mario line, and still have to say no one did it better than square. I find it highly unfortunate that square and nintendo fell out of touch right after it because of the things they could have done.
I also feel really sad that Geno and Mallow were lost for good with the end of the Square/Nintendo love. Square owned Mallow and Geno. Rumor has it Nintendo tried to buy the rights to the characters but sadly square wasn't doing it, and unfortunately square couldn't use the characters either due to some legal shit with nintendo about it.
Honestly would say it was the raw dealings between square and nintendo that kept nintendo from letting people play with it's babies until Metroid Prime. Which turned out to be hugely successful.
Anyway nothing will ever bring me the joy again that SMRPG did probably. I remember being like 11 and the first time you fall down the mountain to get frog coins, or discovering the lucky shell set, or the Axim rangers, or trying to get 100 jumps on an enemy (Which btw is still the hardest thing I've ever done in a video game.)
As far as the Mario and Luigi series goes, I've had a lot of fun with those, though at a point I feel like they always stop being fun around the last third of the game. I don't know why, but even inside story just stopped being entertaining to me around the last part of the game. Usually by the end I'm like "Sheesh glad that's over"
On the other hand SMRPG is always awesome. In fact there's no point in time that I replay that game that I'm not like "OMG I LOVE YOU SMRPG!"
