Have you tried using
Netbeans? It's an awesome, free IDE that you can use to write C, C++, Java, Ruby, Perl, and some other stuff. It looks like it's available for Mac OS X, I'm going to assume that that includes Leopard, right?
A lot of people swear by Eclipse, but I really hate that IDE. Netbeans is very suave though, so you might want to give it a look.
