I just wanted to share the Mario Kart explanation since its the only one I cared about:

I rented this so I only got 5 days of play out of it. I'm not sure how true their statements are. I definitely didn't have as much fun with it as Mario Kart 64. I didn't play Double Dash or the handheld versions enough to be able to say that the games have simply lost their magic. But it seems Nintendo has been following a pattern of making games more playable for everyone. So it definitely could be possible that Mario KArt Wii was 'dumbed' down as the author suggests.
