I definitely think you should. Just for the atmosphere, if nothing else.
I played the first one a long time ago, it was the first RPG I had ever played and I sucked at it. Got bored and left it on the shelf. A year later I got the 2nd one (a magazine gave it for free - I wouldn't pay for a game I didn't like

), and that bored me as well.
A few years ago, I talked to a friend about Fallout, and the conversation got me excited so much, I started playing the 2nd one again (couldn't find the first - still can't find it

).
Although I never finished the first, I think the second one was better because it gave the player more freedom - you needed to finish the first one in 120 game days.
But they're probably the best RPG games ever. Seriously.
Oh, and I'm also very excited about Brawl. How could I forget about that?
