Why would we need something that LARGE?
We had to make bigger ones. If we have the same firepower as Russia or China no one is going to start firing nukes. And I'm pretty sure that the people in Russia know that if they drop a nuke on us we're going to retalliate and someone else is going to get involved and before you know it there will be a massive full scale conflict. Unless machines take over or someone accidently issues the order to drop a bomb on Russia via Plan R the odds of nukes being used is probably less likely then you would be lead to believe.

Also, I have to be one of the few heartless bastards who thinks this, but the use of the two nuclear bombs in World War II was not a bad thing. Not only did it stop the war, but we forewarned Japan that we were going to do it. It wasn't like, "surprise!!! nuclear bomb lolz!" I do feel sorry for every civilian killed and yeah that sucks.

If anything, the invention of the nuke has decreased the chance of a full scale conflict. It's kind of a big penis envy thing.

"Oh, well if you get nukes we'll just get bigger ones so if you ever use your nukes we'll just do twice as much damage!"

So, here we have this weapon that can wipe out everyone, and everyone has it and is ready to use it, so no one is going to do it. Can you imagine the sh!t you'd get in a post-nuclear world if you were the one to launch the first nuke? I don't know much about politics but I do know that any country that launches a nuke is going to get 57 right back at them.

Humans and violence are best friends. Humans have always killed each others, that's nothing new. We have always gone to war, there has always been greed and lust, and there's not many humane things about humans. TV has definitely publicized the violence in our world.

Are we more violent now than we were back in the day? Nahhh. And now we have more humane ways to kill people on death row, we don't torture people to interrogate them, and instead of having to take a few swings with a sword to cut someones head off to kill them we can do it with a single bullet. I'll take the bullet over the sword plz.
