You know, I forgot that there were DVD recorders with a hard drive. Anyway I haven't even seen any of those around as of late. I'd probably get that instead of a DVD recorder/VCR combo. People even say that there are disadvantages to the combo deals, where one part of it can go bad, and either just render the unit into an oversized DVD player, or oversized VCR.

I'm a long way from being able to afford TiVo, but what advantages do you find it to have over the VCR portion of your DVD recorder/VCR unit?
