It actually does make sense...in a stupid last minute attempt sort of way. If only his model was mirrored he would interact with everything differently and could cause problems, like in sword fighting with baddies, or certain puzzles. Not to mention cut scenes would be screwed up and would have to be reversed as well or there would be a ton of continuity errors like his hair part changing back and forth between in-game and cutscenes. But Midna's broken helmet with the one eye revealed has been shown to be the reverse of what it originally was so they did infact seem to have mirrored the entire game.
What's odd is it seems the cube version did not get this same treatment, so the two versions are that much different now. And even odder the cube version in only schedualed to be released in North America at this time, and not Japan or Europe.
