Re: X-men 3: The Last Stand (Pre-impressions)
A lot has been said here so I'll only hit a few points with ***SPOILERS***:
Ratner was wholly unsprepared and lacking the skill to tell this story.
Magneto degenerated into a stock villian, when the side story of him becoming a mutant Hitler (inclusing the botched "speech" allusion) should have been emphasized.
Colossus and Juggernaut in the same movie, and no slobberknocker? Are you ****ing kidding me? Not even a punch exchanged.
Wolverine turns into a wuss. When he had the "heart to heart" with Cyclops I threw up in my mouth a little. How his character was so completely turned on its head in these movies astounds me. If you want to see what Wolverine's personality is really like, watch HELLBOY.
I'm all for characters dying in movies, but the number kicking it in this one made me actually laugh, because it reminded me of Transformers: The Movie.
The ending fight scene was anti-climactic and smacked of B-Moviedom. It looked like they shot it on a soundstage. Pheonix's backlighting was hilariously bad. The wire-work looked like it was from a 1984 kung-fu movie. And the fight scenes were poorly choreographed and forgettable.
The only scene that turned out right was the battle in Jean Grey's childhood home. That was suspenseful and dramatic. Edge of you seat type stuff.
***END SPOILER***
In the end the elements were there for a great movie, but Brett Ratner was directing it, so it fell on its face, especially in the second half.
