Re: X-men 3: The Last Stand (Pre-impressions)
I got back from it a few hours ago. I really enjoyed it; I must say when I read it was only 1h 43m long I was kind of shocked. I felt the movie was a really good length when I watched it; and wasn't particularly bored. There were a few parts here and there that I thought could have been done better, but all in all the movie was really good. I was entertained, and that's really about as important as it is to me.
Might be a few spoilers here, so highlight with caution.
I wasn't overly bothered by the plot devices they changed because in the end they're going in a similar direction, even if they do it a bit differently. Juggernaut is a mutant instead of a nerd with a powerful crystal, the Phoenix is part of Jean Grey's subconscious, not an alien telepath that takes her over, she's not found on the dark side of the moon in a cacoon (though Xavier does use the word Cacoon as a bit of a throwback to those knowledgable in the universe).
And though I tried to ignore it, the Angel sub-plot was just a bit too stereotypically emo for me.
And if you see it in theaters, don't forget to stick around through the credits; there's something there that you have to see.
