Well then let me put my opinion in another fashion:

There is a difference between dissenting opinion and trying to undermine our efforts in Iraq and endangering troops there. I wouldn't care if Durbin simply stated that he would like to see the detainees held in gitmo treated better and that they should be tried or released. That is a dissenting opinion and a part of political discourse.

What Durbin did was to undermine the war effort and give our enemies justification for mistreatment of our troops and POW's. His attempt to create an impassioned debate by making absurd comparions in levels of treatment might and probably will get American troops and civilian workers killed.

Just for those possible reprocussions, Durbin needs to apologize and apologize a soon as possible.
