Re: Battle of the Consoles
Microsoft had the best conference. They know how to make a presentation and they made a good case for Xbox Live.
Nintendo's was underwhelming as expectations ran high. Electroplankton is a cool idea but no one really cares about it. The absence of Mario 128 or any Revolution tech demos left people wanting. Most damaging was the stilted dialogue and forced humor from all the presenters. Even Reggie appeared to be trying to hard. His enounciation was unneccesarily strong and he appeared tense. He's at his best when he's relaxed and having fun.
Sony's conference was way too long and hopelessly bogged down with technical details most gamers don't understand and don't really care about. I felt like I was at a boring computer science lecture. The pace picked up considerably when they presented their mind-blowing demos of real time PS3 games, but I'm looking at the conference as a whole.
Both Nintendo and Sony really need to think twice before letting the Japs give speeches. Their accents are too difficult to understand and distract from the message. Nothing puts you to sleep faster than a technical speech where you can only understand every other word. And the words you do understand you don't necessarily know what they mean.
PS3 appeared in many ways to be the superior product, but they did not present as well as Microsoft.
