Re: Giving George W. Bush His Due on Democracy
I didn't say a decrease in the violence i said ENDING to the violence, I know there has been decreases, but no matter what you say there will be some total fanatics ready to blow up people by a suicide bombing if they get the chance.
America wont be able to stop all the violence, They will continue to work underground and fight. Now their affectivness may and probably will be diminished, but the intention will still be there.
In the wars that have insergency problems, they were never able to fully get rid of the problem, the biggest example being Vietnam. The VC in conjunction with the NVA were able to cause major damage ( Khe Sahn on two occasions, and Tet offensive being the biggest two i can think of). Granted the Americans were there for a long time ( 59 - 73) and the South Vietnamese weren't much of a help. In the first months of the conflict America was able to inflict 10 to 1 odds on the VC these operations included: Starlite, Cedar Falls, etc. But towards the end the VC reinforced by the NVA were able to turn the tide of the war.
Since the Iraqi insergents don't have the help of another military power, like the VC did I don't expect them to make any decisive moves, But they will continue to attack none the less.
