They didnt put WiFi into the DS for no reason besides "LAN'ing" when wireless internet has exploded over the past few years.
Its similar to when PS2 first came out. It had the ability to go online but Sony didnt have any "solid" online details at that time but said its coming. Nintendo is in a similar position. Not online now but its coming (poor 'Cube
