You have to remember though, Nintendo added a handle to the Gamecube that encourages the concept of carrying to and fro. If you're going to do something like that, you need to support it by ensuring a somewhat durable system. So, there's nothing really wrong with the PS2 and Xbox not doing as well because their makers didn't intend for it to be carried and moved regularily.

Nintendo has clearly stated that the handle is NOT for carrying it around like some suitcase. It's just to change its position in the room.
