Have you ever thought about Kings and their harems? Kings used to have loads of women just to himself and his genes, because those genes were obviously the "best." They probably were, if he got to be a king. Well, how did he protect this harem? He passed laws for monogamy. That means only one woman to a man. This protected his harem. It all makes sense. Now it has been passed down and literally fed to us through mediums such as Disney movies. We grow up thinking Monogamy is good.

What I do believe now, in modern times, is that a man will devote himself to one women, but will sleep with others if the opportunity arises. But when you get older and it's time to marry, I'll be less prone to doing that.
I kind of agree. I'm 17 years old, and I don't feel like being devoted to any one person. But I think if you truely love someone, you will be with them and only them. I'm not saying that because of religion or culture...I'm saying that because I believe it's part of love. It might be in our blood to be polygamous, but since when have we done what biology says we should? We aren't animals. We are above them for a reason.

But like I said...I'm 17 and until I decide to get married I'll be polygamous, because I see no benefit from not giving in to what my body wants, and what I desire. To say I want to wait until I get married to have sex would be naivity to the extreme. Don't you hate it when people pretend to have morals by saying this? Yet they'll do the most horrible things in the world, but as long as they don't have intercourse they are a good Christain?

I have a rebuttle to your statement, though, Dyne. I agree with it to an extent. I want to have multiple relationships until I decide to get married (or until I fall in love, whichever comes first), but your statement about us obeying our gene's is a little hypocritical.

Our gene's tell us to be polygamous so that we can reproduce with multiple partners and spread our DNA. Our society is so perfectly driven towards this. The stronger, more athletic, more beautiful people tend to get more sex. Their gene's have the opportunity to spread more. A man who isn't completely interested in sex, and has this moral code that tells him to sleep with only one woman, and he actually follows it, than his gene's aren't given the chance to spread. His weakness is supposed to be removed. Because Biology doesn't think a high moral code is a strenght, in this case it doesn't like it. Any man or woman that actually bends to it is successfully removing those defective gene's from the human race.

That's all good, right? Only it doesn't work like that any more. You want to be polygamous until you are older, right? Becuase your gene's tell you to be? You're gene's are also telling you to reproduce them, but out of all your relationships that you have through the years, the multiple woman you might be with, how many of them will you have sex with unprotected? Probably none. You'll be using contraceptives, thus eliminating the purpose of polygamy. You only behave your genes to a certain extent. Sex stopped being about survival a long time ago.

So if you aren't actually going to srpead the gene's, what's the point of being polygamous?

It's like we use them for an excuse to be polygamous. I admit I will be, but not because of morals or biology. But because I don't see any negatives to it. It just pleases me, that's all.
