The simple fact is Nintendo add more franchises to it's line up with each new system while also trying to appeal to fans of their original.
I mean the SNEs made way for StarFox,PilotWings and Mario Kart.
The n64 was home to Smash Bros, Mario Sports line (I know there was a Tennis game released on the Virtua Boy but see Doshin), PokeMon Stadium, Mario Party, 1080 and WaveRace.
It's rather hard to say Nintendo rests on it's laurels. I mean yes we will have sequels to Mario,Zelda and Metroid on the Cube.
But let's see...
Mario's first real game in 6 years (Everything in between Mario 64 and Mario sunahine are spin offs)
A new Legend of Zelda game .. 2 years after the last
A new Metroid..some what.. 9 years after the last...
And the simple fact is Nintendo brought their second parties to pick up their slack. I mean how the hell do you expect Nintendo to make games that satisfy everyone..And I still believe in some fashion Mario and Zelda remain highly wanted games for the Cube..
More for their games then anything else

Nice one BAB, I agree with you to a certain extent...we all know most of nintendo's games have gone to 2nd parties. Fox, 1080,Metroid..etc...and all Nintendo is doing is making Mario kart, Zelda and Mario?? Come on guys...you know Nintendo is making more games than that...well atleast I would hope so....I think they are just keeping their games to themselves....as usual. But if you don't look at it from that prespective....you could say it is a bit dissapointing but like all things, I guess you have to give it time.
