Default Holy ****ing God Kingdom Under Fire

Oh man. As if Xbox didn't already lead the universe in awesome obscure games, now we get this absolute GEM from Korea. It's a little RTS, a lot RTT (real time tactics) and a bit of hack'n'slash.

Here's some really rushed, rambling impressions.

The way the game works is this:

You get control of a general, and on the battlefield you'll have several groups of units. Infantry, Archers, Cavalry, Catapults, Bombers (winged airships), various beasts, et el. When your general's troops encounter a group of enemy troops (which can be any of the aforementioned types and many others) you control the actual general in a Dynasty Warriors style hack and slash, but with the L and R triggers you can switch to your other units and provide support.

What's so beautiful about this game is just how much these units factor into the battle and how much control you have over them. For example, cavalry. If you attack with cavalry, you're going to want to have them run through the enemy, not up to them and stop, you can do this with the in game minimap (switching between the minimap and the game screen is something that's a bit clunky, but you get the hang of it real fast.)

Archers have longer range when they're on high ground, and will be less effective when you face into the sun, and if an enemies troops are in a wooded area, arrows will be next to useless, BUT you can use fire arrows and actually set a forest ablaze.

All of your troops (as groups) can be upgraded RPG style and outfitted with various weapons.

There are so many little touches that just MAKES this game. Admittedly the graphics aren't exactly up to Xbox standards and the voice acting.......... blows, but just about everything it lacks in polish it makes up for in game play. Easily the best Strategy game I've ever played on a counsel.

And it's on live.

It's $40, if you've got an Xbox, please, pick it up. All you guys that are going to be picking up an Xbox just for Halo 2 and are looking for something else to put in your system, this is your answer.
