Yes, I do live in New York City. And as such, I have heard so many different types of accented English. And the main reason why I say nigga and nigger are the same is because the people that say the former NEVER, EVER pronounce the er's at the end of words and always replacing them with the -ah sound. And I have also heard many times, people who talk and always pronounce an -er, at the end of words that end the -ah sound. Utica beomes Utic-er, Jehovah becomes Jehov-er, Canada beomes Canad-er. That's why I say it's just a different accent. I don't know if you've ever heard people talking like that, but I have.
