Have you defragmentated your HD before you installed it? If I were you, I'd uninstall it, defragemtate and re-install. Then you apply the patch and hold your fingers crossed.

I'm having some problems with installing The Sims for my little sister. Somehow I can't install the expansions, they don't recognise the installed The Sims Deluxe.
