funny you mention Metriod, a "first person action game" that has lock on aiming... why couldn't they have made it third person like GTA3, and when you point up have the blur effect that most third person shooters have?

preference in games that are designed for it.
3rd just wouldnt work in metroid prime. (and all console fps lack in aim, thats why they have auto aim) i can see GTA3 working in first or third. but you dont have to do the stuff reqired in metroid prime, it would get just annoying.
PC FPS games let you put it in 3rd person if you want, theres always a command for it. it just doesnt work unless your goofin around, or making a video.
it all just depends on the game.
