I have seen every type of view work in any type of game... it's just preference.
There are third person shooters that work just as well as first person ones... there is first person football, I guess someone may like that... 1st person fighting, was in virtual Fighter 1 I think, and it was ok... 1st person RPGs like the old phantasy star and Morrowind... there isn't really a best.
funny you mention Metriod, a "first person action game" that has lock on aiming... why couldn't they have made it third person like GTA3, and when you point up have the blur effect that most third person shooters have?
