Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion

Quote:

Oblivion will be a single-player game in the grand, free-playing tradition of previous Elder Scrolls titles -- most especially the critically acclaimed Morrowind. Like that game, players will be free to follow the main storyline at their own pace, with plenty of exploration, subquests, intrigue, and alliances available to those who want to take them up. Joining a faction such as the Mages or Thieves Guilds, for instance, will introduce its own side-story.

"Our games have always been about great depth and variety in creating any kind of character you want and going out and doing whatever you want," commented executive producer Todd Howard. "With Oblivion, we're taking the idea of a virtual fantasy world as far as it will go."

The primary story of Oblivion takes place in Tamriel's capital province, Cyrodiil. There, the Emperor's throne is empty, and with its vacancy the gates to Oblivion (hell, essentially) are open. Demons are spilling through and attacking Cyrodiil's people and towns. You must find a proper heir to the throne in order to close Oblivion and restore order -- while also discovering what sinister plot triggered the chaos in the first place.

Oblivion will use a new AI system which Bethesda is calling Radiant AI. The developer explains that NPCs will now make their own choices based on the world around them. Each will go about its own activities, deciding when and where to eat, whom to talk to, whether to steal, go to church, etc. Bethesda is also adding full speech and facial animation for all NPC dialog.

Ive never played this game.

I know its a stupid question I ask alot, but I like what i read, and like, what type of game is it? RPG, Action?

Can it be online?

And sweet Jesus, i love the part about the AI basically being like people, doing what they please, when they please. Sweet lord.

Whens it come out?
How much?
Is it online?
What style of game?
Compare it to a game if possible.

When I saw those screenshots I thought the same thing Strangler did... If the game actually ends up looking that good, it would most likely be running on the highest resolution with the highest graphic quality, AA, atriphsohwhatever the hell that thing is called... Which would require like a $5,000 computer... :sneaky:

Well, I look at Doom 3 the game quality difference between resolutions was pretty much negligable. Seriously, Doom 3 looked just fine at 800x600. Perhaps this game will be similar.

When it does come out late 2005/early 2006, the hardware to run it won't be too expensive. By then, the next gen of video cards will be out, and the 6800 and X800 will be cheaper. I'm not too concerned, I'm upgrading in spring of next year regardless.

It doesn't count if it's an Alienware though. If so, the bar is 10k.
