Another "Moral" Question

Here is a question, and I think it is a very tough question to answer.

Here it is : Your house in on fire. Everybody is outside, except for your mother and your father. They are both on the top floor. And there is only enough time to save one of them. If you try to save both, all three of you will die. And your parents are of equal distance withing being saved, but in different rooms.

So, who would you pick? Your mother is your mother. She gave birth to you. She has known you longer than anyone.

Your father is your father. He was allways there for you. He might even be your role model.

So, who would you pick? And please state why. I understand if you do not know your answer, because it is a pretty hard question to answer.

***Note. For those of you that do not have a mother or a father, or do not have both, pretend that a close person (eg. a brother or a sister, or a close friend or relative) who is in the building***

***Another Note. Make sure that the two people in the building are of equal likings to you. So if you hate your mom or dad, pick somebody else, and specify***

Simple. I'd try to save both and all 3 of us would die. I can't be forced to pick between my mom and my dad.

I wouldn't run into the house. I love myself too much too even risk.

Bugger.

I would run in and try to save both...I would grab both and lead them to the front door...because, you see, I don't have a favourite and besides, at the time how would I know if I tried to save both we would all die?

Jin 03-02-2002 05:28 PM

Hmm... this question is really tough. If I was in the situation, I would randomly choose one or the other. Of course it wouldn't make sense to have all three of us die, but I wouldn't want to choose one over the other. They both are responsible for bringing me into this world afterall.

EDIT: Spelling err0r

azazela31 03-02-2002 05:31 PM

On a serious level I would save my mom.

Just because my dad go divorced with her and didn't leave us any money. The bastard.

One Winged Angel 03-02-2002 05:45 PM

I'd try to save both of them. Choosing between my mom and dad is a terrible I'd have to make.

Joeiss 03-02-2002 06:28 PM

I would chose my mom. Why? Because I know that both my parents love eachother very much. And I know that my dad would rather have my mom live than himself.

The Germanator 03-02-2002 09:34 PM

My parents are divorced, so they both wouldn't be in the same house at the same time, so there...

GameKinG 03-02-2002 09:53 PM

Well, If we were in my house I would go for them both and the rooms would likely be in the back across the hall from each other, so I we would go on the balcony, and go down the ladder.

Dose it annoy you when people dont play the game right?:p

Gee, u know, thats a hard question.

Id try to save both, and we'd all die.

Kitana85 03-03-2002 07:45 AM

I would choose my father.

Hold on though. I have to explain this. I love both of my parents incredibly, and I would not want either of them to die. If I said I would try to get both of them, I would be commiting suicide, and that is not okay. Why my father and not my mother? Simply because my father is in better shape. My mother is shorter than my father, but my father is plain in GREAT shape, it would be easier and more practical in my distressed state to bring him out. Also, the turmoil of my father's death would not allow my mother to provide for herself and me, but my father, though he would be quite devistated, has the emotional stability to keep himself and me in reasonable shape.

This question does bring about some other intersting ideas though. I don't know how many of you have seen/read Sophie's Choice, but in it a mother is made to choose which of her children (one son and one daughter) will live and which will die. The mother chooses the son because of the quality of life he would later have. Sometimes one has to make choices based on later circumstances. There was nothing wrong with either of the children, just as there is nothing terribly wrong with either of my parents.

But, oh gosh, where do you come up with these questions? Then again, maybe I don't want to know.

Revival 03-03-2002 09:56 AM

my dad would probably rather have my mom live, but he wouldn't be making that decision.. I would, and I couldn't choose.

D-Man 03-03-2002 01:02 PM

Same thing as azazela, but if that had never happened, I would go randomly or something. I couldn't make a choice.
