Microsoft Active Directory vs Apple ......?

Does Apple have anything to compete (or excel) Microsofts Active Directory?

Just wondering. Active Directory is brilliant. I'm in the middle of roughly desiging a forest for our work. Recently started doing my MCSE and already trying to restructure our network @.@
