need to know..very desperate.
okay, i'm a prowd mac owner. there's a downside with thsat though. barely any games are avaialable on the mac. so i decided to build my own windows PC, but be cheap and not buy a monitor for my windows one. I found an aapple product(DVI to ADC adapter) that lets me change monitor types, per se, (IE: lets me use my flat screen mac monitor w/ a windows machine). I tried it on a windows machine.(a gateway 2000. approx. 5 yrs old @ most) and, to my anger and perplexment, got no display on the monitor when pulgged into the gateway. i then used it on my mac. works fine. so, is there a way i can get this DVI-ADC adapter to support a windows machine?(i weas running 98 v.2 on the gateway. my new machine will either be ME or XP). is it just a problem all together, or is there something i'm missing? and yes, i have 1 other adaptor plugged to the DVI/ADC. it's simply a port/pin adaptor to go from mac monitor types to "windows" / regular monitors. so once more i ask you, is there a solution to the dilemma?

Re: need to know..very desperate.
I don't have an exact answer to your problem but your new machine better have XP on it otherwise you can jsut toss it out the window if it has ME

Re: need to know..very desperate.
Ok...i have a few simple steps for you.
Step One: Throw your Mac out the window. Step Two: Dont buy a Mac. Step Three: Enjoy. |
Re: need to know..very desperate.
Why? Macs are far superior computers then a PC. They just lack support.

Re: need to know..very desperate.
You haven't built the new machine yet, right?
So how do you know the adapter you have now won't work for the new machine? Wait until you have the new computer so you can test it. By the way, most videocards now have a direct DVI plug in them. Is this a different DVI than the Mac one you got? And I've never heard of ADC. Do you mean VGA (the standard monitor input, before DVI), or is it a standard to do with Macs? |
Re: need to know..very desperate.
I'm not sure either, but I bet Null can help you out.

Re: need to know..very desperate.
Could it be that the addapter is to make MAC machines work on regular monitors instead of PC's to MAC monitors?

Re: need to know..very desperate.
I did a quick look around the net. I'm not positive, but this is how it seems..
ADC is a Mac standard, or a standard for something or other. But it's not normally used for PCs. So a DVI to ADC adapter won't help. When you build the new PC, you will need a DVI to VGA adapter, UNLESS the videocard you get has a direct DVI-in plug. Any vidcard you get likely will have a DVI plug, as all the new ones seem to include them. Unless there are different standards of DVI, meaning your monitor's DVI is different from the PC's DVI. But let's hope not.. :) EDIT: I realized I might be confused, and the adapter you have is ADC to DVI, not the other way around. I hope I'm wrong. EDIT2: I now realized I AM confused, and now see exactly what you mean. ADC is the Apple standard (Apple Desktop Connector), and it IS odd that the adapter didn't work.. (It's tough being retarded.) :-o All I can say now is that I hope the new computer works. |

There just locked down pieces of sh*t. Buy a PC there alot more open you can do alot more on it and you'll be all the more happier with the purchase. |
Re: need to know..very desperate.
GeForce FX5600 256MB card would have it, right?(the DVI port that i need)
|
Re: need to know..very desperate.
Yes, and no. Depends on which brand you buy, there are so many different companies selling Nvidia cards that it's hard to tell if they all will have DVI.
When you buy the card just make sure it has DVI support. It should be something fairly obvious to spot. The card will either have just VGA or just DVI, or it will have two plugs, one of each or both DVI. Even if it doesn't have DVI, converters that allow DVI monitors to plug into VGA computers are very common. Here's how they look, by the way. The top is VGA, bottom DVI. |

i took a look at the card's specs, and it says it has a DVI-I output. that IS what i need, right?
