I take it they lost? I saw it when Porto Rico was just starting to pull away. Thatss a major upset.

I'm not surprised. I agree with what Crash said, and I actually find this rather amusing.

I just remember that they got there asses handed to them by Italy a while ago.

No offense, but USA losing to Italy by 20 points in basketball, is like Canada being shutout 10-0 by Japan in hockey.

They are a growing joke IMO. They make so much money, and they cant even beat teams that play for potatoes and chickens. Lame.

If the American people cared enough about our Olympic basketball team we would have the best Olympic basketball team. Obviously the majority of people don't.

He's just making a comparison. Lol that would suck so much if we lost to Japan by 10.

HAHAHAHA. Thats funny. Japan actually beating Canada 10-0 at hockey. It was a comparison.

I meant things like that should never happen.

Re: USA Basketball Sux

The team didnt start practicing together until about the end of July and Beginning of August. No chemistry at all! No outside shot. No Defensive guards. No Shaq. No Kobe. No KG. No Veterens. USA doesnt care anymore about olympic basketball.

The rest of the world has teams playing. USA has Richard Jefferson and Carlos Boozer on their Best of the Best team. WTF?

Re: USA Basketball Sux

Tis is a microcosm of how bad basketball in the US has become. The game of today has little to no resemblance to the game that was played even 15 years ago. Its all flash and no substance. When there are teams in the world who know how to play team basketball, and *shock* DEFENSE, the US is bound to lose.

This is why I no longer watch pro basketball. I prefer to watch BASKETBALL, and not a glorified slam dunk contest.

Two things, Crash.

1. This belongs in the sports forum. ;)

2. America didn't get knocked out. Top 4 teams out of the 6 in their division go on to the next round (they are playing like a round robin now).

And yes, this American team isn't great because they chose a great team originally, but when everybody except Tim Duncan and Allen Iverson backed out, they chose lack-luster backups. They chose some great 4's and a couple of good 3's, but no quality 1's or 2's (except dwayne wade).

International basketball is played with the shorter three-point line. Basketball America did not capitalize on this. Considering that they have only 1 player on the team who was in the top 50 for 3-point% last season (Jefferson from the Nets, who is defintely not regarded as a quality outside shooter), you knew they would have rough starts, and ends.

Also, since they chose a big team, they should get the ball down low to the post. It is easier in the NBA because of the defensive 3-in-the-key violation, but in international ball, as soon as Tim Duncan or Odom get the ball down low, they automatically have 2 guys guarding them. Then the only option is to pass it outside, but they have no outside shot, hahahaa.

All in all, the american basketball team does suck.

The reason that the American team sucks, is because international basketball takes skill and effort.

You cant prance your way up to the hoop and dunk it every time, you need to work for it.

They are getting owned because they are playing like its the NBA, so they try to put on a show, so while they are prancing around not making 3-balls, a team like Italy creeps up and humiiates them.

Shouldnt shorter 3 point lines make it easier to get 3 points? I mean, its closer to the hoop. you know...

And isnt it already in the sports forum? :sneaky:
