Minor Problem

Okay..well these past two days have been hell when it comes to my computer. I'm not going to talk about what happened, because I fixed it now. I ended up having to uninstall windows and reinstall it. The minor problem that I have now is that my wireless usb network adapter won't work. There is an error that comes up everytime I restart my computer, or turn it on. The error says "10038: Socket operation on non-socket". If anyone here knows what that means it would help me out a lot. *sigh* At least I'm done with school, so it won't interfere.

Are both ends of the USB cord firmly inserted into the computer and the receiver? Also, you might want to try plugging it into a different USB port, if you have another one.

Yeah, they're both plugged in firmly, and I don't have another USB port in my computer. I know that I screwed something up when I screwed up my computer though. Does that error have something to do with the configuration not being configured correctly?

Maybe, i saw you should check all of your configs to see, because you just might have f***** yourself over if it wont work.

I'm not sure where I should go to do that though. If you wouldn't mind, could you tell me where?

Try checking your Device Manager (Start--> Control Panel--> System--> "Hardware" Tab--> "Device Manager" Button).

If anything related to USB comes up with a Yellow Question Mark or a Yellow Exclamation Mark, that might be your problem. USB would most likely be under System Devices, or possibly under it's own section.

If that is your problem, I can give you further advice to install the drivers.

No that's not the problem. I searched for my wireless usb adapter on my computer and a few things came up that were related to it. There was on that said WUSB11Confg or something like that, and when I double-clicked it, that same error came up.

As I was typing my original reply (which wasn't getting much help since Google didn't help as much), I checked one more site. And someone else with the problem had replies from people and someone posted something to try and it worked for 2 people (the only ones who replied after it). And just ot make sure, your running Windows 98/ME right?

Here's the link. Read the directions he posted CAREFULLY. And as he said, make sure to backup your registry just in case you delete the wrong thing and can recover the registry. Also, I'd recommend making sure you have your Win98/ME disk handy just in case.

Re: Minor Problem

He's running ME (told me on AIM earlier). And I had to wade through 4 pages before getting a forum in which there were replies from people (and a solution someone posted) that said it worked. I figured he had 98 or ME since each click kept mentioning 98 or ME.

Re: Minor Problem

Jonbo of your taking to him on aim just tell him how to do a nuke and pave and a com bomb and that should fix it with out the reg hack unless his comms are totaly screwed.

Re: Minor Problem

I have been doing stuff today so I couldn't talk to him on aim. I printed out the directions, and I'm going to go try to fix my computer now. Just so you know Hero2, I'm on my dad's computer, and it's not screwed. The reason my computer is screwed is because I tried reformating it and I didn't know what I was doing and I screwed it up. It didn't reformat, and I was able to get to my desktop, but nothing worked. I eventually decided to just uninstall windows, and reinstall it. Now this is the problem that I'm having. Thanks everyone again, hopefully this will work.

Edit:

Oh crap, I just read this instructions, and it's for dial-up. I don't use dial-up, I have cable.

Another Edit:

I was looking for it online and I read this.

Question/Problem: Socket operation on non-socket.

Answer/Solution: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket. The specified socket parameter refers to a file, not a socket.

and..

you need to do error checking on the call to socket(). your socket is not being created correctly, or the variable that you claim to contain the socket doesnt actually contain it. where is the rest of the code.

which was posted by someone.

Basically I have come to the conclusion that this socket wasn't created correctly when I reinstalled windows ME. Should I try to reinstall it again?

Re: Minor Problem

It sounds like a problem with tcp/ip so the fix is the same on dailup, dsl, and cable or whatever kind of connectiuon you might have.
