IGN are a bunch of lying bitches

If anyone can explain to me how these two sentences can be in the same article...

Sentence #1: "In a little over a year, the IGN Boards have gotten over 30 million posts, making it one of the largest, most active entertainment communities on the entire Internet."

Sentence #2: "none of our advertisers wanted their ad units to run on the boards."

I mean you couldn't be so full of ****, even if you tried.

Maybe only in time IGN will be able to surpass themselves again.

Ginkasa 02-26-2002 03:58 PM

Well obviously if they're not trying and they are that full of **** then they'd be even more full of **** if they were trying so....

Hasn't this been addressed already? Let's see, I think it was ed328 who pointed out that banner advertisements at forums don't work.

So what was the problem again?

Gamer 02-26-2002 05:24 PM

So how do sites with like 500 memebers manage to survive with pop-ups and ads??

Kitana85 02-27-2002 12:28 PM

But whatever, there is always a good time in making fun of IGN!

I would bet they are losing money.

BigJustinW 02-27-2002 01:04 PM

I think the workers at IGN are greedy and they want to get paid too much

N8 02-27-2002 02:19 PM

I think all ads should be taken off the internet, I mean they don't work...

who here ever clicks on ads?

plus they suck and detract from the look of a site.

although, I would rather bypass them than have to pay for stuff, but sooner or later, businesses are going to realize internet ads aren't as good as they used to be. and looks as if that has begun obviously

as for ign, I don't think they are greedy, but they do want to make a profit, that is the whole purpose of a business

I seriously doubt the ign writers and other staff members are driving porches to work after leaving thier big mansions

Without banner ads, how would companies get ANY money besides charging for things?

I mean, banner ads are hardly paying .20 for a click now, but they bring in some cash -- if you have enough people to click on them.

But for some companies, it's how they work. I mean, look at Newgrounds.com -- it's filled with banner and porn ads, just so the site can stay afloat.

Well like Xantar said, they're probably losing money. Also, a site with only 500 members doesn't have nearly the hardware, people, bandwidth, etc. costs that IGN does.

Well that's what you'd think, but they wouldn't be doing it if there weren't people clicking on the ads. You know how you are asked to buy things on the phone? Normally you'd think that no one in their right mind would actually listen to what they had to say and buy something, but that's a 450 million dollar a year industry.
