I have a big worry concerning what was said in this article. It mentions that WMX8 has an ORIGINAL gameplay engine. If this is true, it means that the worlds greatest wrestling engine is DEAD.

Why do people insist on trying to mess with perfection? Does THQ not realize that the popularity of the N64 series was BECAUSE of the gameplay? Is Sander's Keel a complete MORON?

DOES THIS PISS ANYONE ELSE OFF?!?!?!?

You need to try things before you judge them.

Professor S 02-25-2002 11:33 PM

I don't care if the engine they use is good, if they change it I'll still want to play that old engine again. Its a classic engine that is perfect for putting on excellent wrestling matches.

I have been waiting for years for this engine to be put on a system where the graphics and presentation would catch up to the engine and CAW. Looks like all that waiting may have been for nothing.

Also, I've seen a few videos, and the animations look slow. I hope Yukes looks into it and fixes this.

True, I may be jumping the gun here but anyone who knows me knows I take my wrestling games VERY seriously. Especially when it comes to my N64 style games. They are some of the greatest games ever mafde PERIOD, much less the greatest wrestling games ever made IMO.

Hmm I guess in his anger The Strangler missed something:

WWF WrestleManiaź X8's original gameplay engine recreates all the action, excitement and tradition WWF fans have come to love. Experience the intensity and exhilaration of professional wrestling as you step onto the mat to fight the most brutal band of brawlers around. Master each Superstar's unique wrestling style and turn the tide of the match through a combination of counters, reversals and bone-shattering finishing moves. Play as top WWF Superstars including newcomers Rob Van Dam, Booker T, DDP and the Hurricane. Compete in six different venues including SmackDown!, Raw and the ultimate extravaganza, WrestleManiaź. Finally, relive the rich history surrounding WrestleManiaź and compete for championship glory through a host of match types including death-defying TLC matches or legendary Hell in a Cell match-ups.

You are exactly right, I did miss that in my rage after I read they were changing the engine. I just skipped down to the bullet points. When I didn't see those matches I wrote my post. I have edited it since then.

BTW, I will try this game out, but I'll be renting a Gamecube and WMX8 to do it. If its only a Raw type of game (good but not anywhere near great) I won't be buying either.

I still want my N64 engine back though...

These features are in Ps2's smackdown game... and it doesn't make the game any better...

Gameplay should come first, and Aki perfected it, THEN the extra features should come into play...

IMO, No Mercy will be the best WWF game until THQ lets Aki re-create the fighting system for one of there WWF games.

THANK YOU

Let's all take some Zoloft and calm down.. :D

In a weird moment of life, I agree with you...

...

But I thought it was pretty clear they weren't using the exact same engine as the old one a long time ago, so why get mad now?

fingersman 02-26-2002 07:46 PM

"Up to7 characters on screen at the same time including Superstars, announcers and referees. "

Does this mean that they will only be four wrestlers on screen at one time if there are commentators and a referee?? If it isn't shouldn't it be 7 people on the screen at the same thing not including referees. ?

 I'm confused. Will someone please try and clear this up for me.

BreakABone 02-26-2002 08:06 PM

Well the 7 characters on the screen thing also has me a bit confuze. I know the default is 4 wrestlers, 2 commentotors and a ref, but I hope they allow you to change that. I doubt it but I don't know

Professor S 02-26-2002 08:46 PM

Chris, I just found this out now so thats why I'm getting all mad. I was under the impression they were going to base the engine on the N64 version and just tweak it a little.

if this is true, Nintendo just went from having the best WWF Games to the worst.

nWoCHRISnWo 02-26-2002 09:43 PM

I don't know about that... In No Mercy you could only have four wrestlers at the same time, yet most agree that it's one of the best wrestling games there is.

Because No Mercy's Gameplay engine is perfect...

Straying from No Mercy's fighting design makes makes a WWF game crap because it has to be compared to No Mercy's...

And uh, Ps2 allows 8 people in the Ring at once, and WWF Raw allows 6...now WMX8 allows 4????

What happend to more power allowing more things on screen?

*shakes head*
