GameTavern's Athletes

Certainly pretty much everyone at this forum enjoys videogames...but this is where GameTavern's Athletes can post about their association with sports.

Perfect Stu

Current sports I participate in:

-Basketball: I am one of the top dawgs at my highschool...6'3" uber-powerforward with a surprisingly diverse game.

-Golf: 14 handicap, baby...hoping to lower it by a couple strokes this spring/summer/early fall

-Football: My best fit...big, strong, heavy, but athletic. And not afraid to knock heads with other big, strong, heavy athletic guys. Will likely be playing College ball this fall, and if I get good enough, I have a shot at an NCAA scholarship.

who's next? :)

- Hockey. for the last 20 years. I'm a goaler.

- Professional Wrestling. That's right, I've been taking some classes now for 3 months.

Re: GameTavern's Athletes

Well... I was a Football player (LB). Got one injury, lost all trust from coach, put on quite a few pounds, and well, I'm a couch potato. (sad isn't it?)

I still lift, and I find myself playing basketball now a lot more. My goal is to graduate from this JC and move on to hopfully go to Cal to play football again. As much as it sucks I'll have to be a walk on if I do that.

I'm officially 6'4, around 250lbs now, I can still run the 40 well below 5 seconds and can dunk a basketball with ease... I want to get back to around 230 though, even though I haven't made any true attempts as far as my diet goes.

Re: GameTavern's Athletes

Nitram: how good of a goalie are you? I played 8 seasons in the Metro/Greater Toronto Hockey League at the AA level...I was a defenceman. Back injuries forced me to quit a couple years ago :(

J:

You can get back into LB shape. Right now I'd consider myself "out of football shape"...I'm 6'3, tipping the scales at 264lbs, and I've recently been clocked at an average of 5.15 on the 40. And I'm used as an almost-purely blocking TE and defensive end (cause I can hold up a double team like a mofo ;))

If you can still dunk, you're not that far off...I can touch rim with probably an inch to spare,

Re: GameTavern's Athletes

I'm pretty average I would say. I used to play for the Senior B league back in New-Brunswick, but now, here in Montreal, we only play in a Garage League that we call in french (wouldn't know how to call it in english). But the caliber is still pretty good.

Sports that I have participated in...

Football: Started in both my Freshman and Sophmore years in high school, but broke my back half-way through my sophmore year which ended my career. I played MLB/DL on defense and RG on offense. I weighed about 190 during those days.

Basketball: Played my Junior and Senior years in high school. I mainly played on the JV squad because I was short, but had no skills as a guard...so I was a 5'9" power forward which only sorta works on the JV level. I was fairly good, had a nice outside shot and everything, I still play hoops on the side today.

Baseball: I was a 4-year starter in baseball, arguably my favorite sport to play. Ended probably with a solid .275 average or so, had my share of doubles and triples (no homeruns :() I played a pretty good left field too, made a few very nice diving catches and always enjoyed my time out there. Our team sucked my senior season though. We started off 5-2 and ended up 7-12...very depressing.

On a side sports note. EAGLES GOT TERRELL OWENS! REJOICE PHILADELPHIA, REJOICE!!!!

Edit: Now I go to a college with no sports all besides intramural which is a bit strange, but not so bad...

Re: GameTavern's Athletes

Germy, I am a former outfielder as well. I've never had the top speed to play center, so I played either right or left, depending on if some other fielder had a better arm. I was a good fielder, but a better hitter. In the provincial little league at 13 years old (the teams that potentially qualify for the Little League World Series), I hit over .400 and had an over .550 on base %. (good eye ;)) I BARELY made the team because nobody knew me to start the year...and by the end of the season, I was starting and batting 3rd. Coaches named me most improved player by far.

My most shining moment though, didn't shine. I was in left field...and this dude pounded a line drive right off the fence. A kid who was on first was running for home, and I absolutely GUNNED this throw...one-hopper, RIGHT ON THE MONEY...best throw I've ever made, BY FAR. Catcher grabs it, goes for the tag and LOSES THE BALL!!! An out would have won us the game...instead, we lost. To one of the top teams in the province. Ah well :p

Re: GameTavern's Athletes

played JV football, nothing happened much.
But during spring practices, just as it dawned on me that I could be seeing some major playing time, I was eventually forced to quit because of sickle-cell related stuff.

Play football with my friends, but I never had time for anything at school.

Re: GameTavern's Athletes

I've been on teams for pretty much every major sport througout my life so far, except for football. But I've been active pretty much. Right now I do two "sports," which are Karate and Golfing. I golf fairly regularily during the summer season, but practice Karate every Monday and Wednesday in my dojo. It's helped me stay fit and lose a lot of weight while gaining a lot of muscle. On top, I do a lot of free weights and all around weight lifting. And DDR, if that's a "sport." Haha.

People have always told me I would be a good football player.. but I just never got into it. I like to use my girth for other things.

Re: GameTavern's Athletes

I just started doing spring track this year. Other than that, I haven't done anything besides little league baseball. My sister is very accomplished though. She was 8th in states for cross-country AAA schools in Pennsylvania and won the Delaware county championship. In Winter track she went to states for the mile run, but didn't do so well. And for spring track, she has yet to go to states. She also used to play basketball a lot. I figured that doing track would keep me in shape, plus I guess it can be fun since I'll be doing mostly field events.
