Re: Oscar nominees out.
pretty good line up, although i doubt that PotC will win the makeup award. I hope it does win something though, because movie is uber-good

Re: Oscar nominees out.
Hopefully LotR gets Best Picture. Peter Jackson deserves it after all the hard work put into this movie and the great results of that hard work.

Re: Oscar nominees out.
I would love for Pirates and LotR to get some awards. Both movies are awesome. I don't really have much of a valid say in what should win though, I haven't seen the majority of those movies.

Sean Astin wasn't nominated for best supporting actor.
...... ...... Someone will have to die. *shrugs and walks away* |
Re: Oscar nominees out.
there should be a 'best acting ensemble' award....the acting in Lord of the Rings was very very solid but I don't think I could nominate any individual.
|
Re: Oscar nominees out.
...Whoa, I didn't even know half those movies existed. I guess I'm not an avid movie-goer.

Re: Oscar nominees out.
Crap. While I was typing, I got logged out and had to retype everything.. Ok:
Twin Sisters from The Netherlands!! Hope LotR wins things. Best movie. PJ 'deserves' it. Johnny Depp best actor? He made PotC, without him it's NOTHING. |
Re: Oscar nominees out.
Alone I don't think that any of the LotR movies should be Best Picture, but if it's going to one of them, it should be RotK.
I think they should just give LotR some kind of lifetime achievement award. I understand that RotK might get the award as a testament to the greatness of the trilogy, but Master and Commander or Seabiscuit deserve best picture over RotK. |
Re: Oscar nominees out.
master commander or seabiscuit? wow. your the only one i ever heard say that. hehe
Lost in Translation and Mystic River deserve it HEAVILY as the top 2. followed by LotR, then its a toss up between the last 2 because i dont feel neather of thoes 'truely' belong there. Seabiscuit very good film. not great tho. Mystic River and Lost in Translation deserve many of the ones they are nominated for. 2 Wonderfuly Great films. I think theres a couple catagories, at least one that Matchstick Men coulda been up for. but oh well. And i hope Big Fish gets it for best score, altho thats highly doubtful with what its up against. but hey, always good to hope for stuff. hehe. |

A lot of Oscar movies are small independant films that aren't released outside of film festivals or select cities. A lot of these indie films depend on the Oscars to give them some publicity to get them known. The director's and actors/actresses win awards and go on to bigger (but not necessarily better) movies. S'why a lot of people were upset when they tried to stop the Academy from giving the judges individual copies of the movies, meaning they would have to go out to see them on their own. If the judges were given copies of the indie films, they probably wouldn't see them at all and the indies would not gain that publicity. That's far more information that you (didn't) ask for, but who's counting? *shrugs and walks away* |
Re: Oscar nominees out.
actually pretty much all of thoes were released in theatres everywhere.
A lot start off at select cities then go to the rest later on. we had to drive an hour to see Lost in Translation when we went. We didnt want to wait a week for it to come to the theatre near us. hehe |
Re: Oscar nominees out.
I always have to drive at least 35 minutes to go to a movie theater, it sort of sucks...and it's about an hour or hour and 15 minutes to the independent theaters in Philly. There are a few movies up there that were mainly in indie theaters like City of God, Thirteen, American Splendor, and any of the documentaries among others...Though usually those movies get smaller nominations like script, or editing, or best adapted screenplay, something like that.

Re: Oscar nominees out.
I'm so happy Seabiscuit got the nomination...that movie was GREAT. I think it has a chance at winning best cinematography.
I think Chris Cooper deserved a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in that movie, too. He won last year for Adaptation and to me he's one of the best actors out there. |
