Dumb quote

"What if everything you see is more than what you see-the person next to you is a warrior and the space that appears empty is a secret door to another world? What if something appears that shouldn't? You either dismiss it, or you accept that there is much more to the world than you think. Perhaps it is really a doorway, and if you choose to go inside, you'll find many unexpected things."

This quote was on the GC's box and I thought it was pretty lame. Could they not find a better quote than this one from Mr. Miyamoto? Or is it really a good quote and I'm the one that's dumb? IMO, it would have been a lot better if they got a few short quotes on the console from sites like Gamespot or magazines like EGM.

btw, I know this topic doesn't matter, but I'll post it anyway.

I like this one

Miyamoto: Xbox is a nice machine, but the control pad is really very large and uncomfortable. You know, Japanese don't even carry shoes in their house, they do not like bulky things in their homes. (laughter). Look at the GameCube, it is practical!

No, it's not stupid. It's very philsophical and wise. It requires certain intellectual comprehension from it's reader. Maybe when you're older it will mean more to you just like those trips to the circus with you're grandpa when you were seven.

Jin, here's the dumbest quote I have seen:

"No, it's not stupid. It's very philsophical and wise. It requires certain intellectual comprehension from it's reader. Maybe when you're older it will mean more to you just like those trips to the circus with you're grandpa when you were seven."

jk jk jk

I just had to do it ;)

LMAO!

Some philisophical quotes become more deep after time, but this would sound more intellectual to me about 3 years ago then it does now. Nothing against Miyamoto, but from what I've read in the past, philosophy isn't one of his strongest points. Miyamoto started off well, but after the first sentence it all went downhill. I still think that quotes from renown sources commenting on the GC would premote it more.

Nintendo is trying tp "up" the play on creative thinking in the video game market. What better way to express it then with their top designer's very own creative words on the box...

And it kinda makes you think.

I'm not against creative thinking, but the way that was worded made it sound dumb, whether there was philisophical intent or not. Sure it may not be the worst quote out there, but since it is the only quote on the box you'd think they'd find something that was a little more clear and straightforward. If they just had the first sentence I would have no complaints, but when Miyamoto speaks about dismissing something that appears that isn't suppose to appear, he is either confused or can't articulate what he's thinking.

Has anyone seen Dogma? Well if so, maybe Miyamoto is like God in Dogma. Humans can't comprehend the words that He speaks. He's so intelligent that it's beyond our mental capacity.

Well either that, or there were some translating problems... yeah, it was probably the latter.

Hmm well it's a dumb quote...

But I think he is trying to bring up something about illusions. How what you see isn't always what you get.

I think the quote is rather stupid. (Jin's quote)

"What role does realism play in videogames I ask myself. Is this image more interesting? Sometimes.. however, what if a "detailed" hand with 5 fingers is catching a bottle but the fingers pass right through it? Is this still realistic? Rather than to show each meticulous and tiny detail of a finger, it is more important to make the end action look more credible by working on the movement and functionality of the arms and the hand in relation to the object."

GameMaster 02-25-2002 12:04 AM

Ah, yes, Miyamoto said that a couple weeks ago when questioned about realism.

This one about violence:

Games exists only to entertain and violence is one of the ingredients. Violence is one way to go, to capture the gamers interest through drama is a lot harder. Since we represent interactive media, we have to be more careful, since the player controls the action. It's not like watching a movie where you can't control the outcome, it's the gamer that makes things happen.
